Snow

It don't really snow here, Sometimes it rains all day
We don't have reindeer We ain't got a sleigh
You bought me a present, I've got a past
Maybe we've got a future Maybe this will last
Could be our last Christmas We'll never know
But We don't have reindeer and We don't have snow
You've got a baby, you tell me its mine
We don't have mistletoe, we don't have wine
Got a four pack of tenants, and a couple of pills
And some tired old tinsel on the window sill
Ain't much of a Christmas by the neon glow
And We don't have reindeer and We don't have snow
Our grocery trolley, ain't filled to the brim
And Ivy and Holly are on the corner again
Offering Christmas loving and Christmas cheer
But you won;t get something for nothing round here
Aint much of a Christmas by the neon glow
And We don't have reindeer and We don't have snow
Let's get out for the evening, out of this flat
Put on your Christmas jumper, I'll wear my Christmas hat
We'll go round to the Eastern, and I'll almost believe
Peace and goodwill to all men, on this Christmas eve
We'll sing Come all ye Faithful and Silent Night
And War is Over, and May your Christmas be white
So Merry Christmas baby, Love you more than you know
And though its rain this year, maybe next it'll snow

Tinsel Angel

Snow is glistening in the headlight beams
I've been travelling forever it seems
Should have been there hours ago, but the
Traffic's heavy and the goings slow
Noddy Holders on the radio
Tells me “Its Christmas”, I already know
But these tail lights go on over the hill
Come Boxing day I could be driving still
Be the Tinsel Angel on top of my tree
I'll be the little drummer in your military
Be my figgy pudding with brandy ablaze
I'll be the stacking filler on Christmas day
We've had our problems, Its been a tough year
With you up there and me down here
Money's been tight so I'm working away
But I promised I'd be there on Christmas day
Snow is glistening in the Porchlight glow
You're standing there in the wind and the cold
The door opened as I drove through the gate
I can't believe you've waited up so late.

(Not a) Christmas Song

(Not a) Christmas Song
Its November the first, we’ve just had Halloween
The supermarkets put up its nativity scene
The Christmas lights are on in the town,
Its all aboard the festive Merry-go-round
This is not a Christmas song, this is not a yuletide tune
It’s the same old, cliches every year and it starts playing far too soon
The shops are selling all kinds of tat, from snowman slippers to turkey hats
And we’re spending more than we get paid, we’ll count the cost on Boxing Day
The hype gets higher and higher it seems, feeding the fire of our festive
dreams
Of quality time with family and friends, of hatchets buried and making amends
Just the smell of a Christmas tree brings memories flooding back to me
Of chestnuts roasting in the fireside glow and carol singers in the snow
Winter mornings crisp and clear and sleighbells ringing for all to hear
And though I know that they aren’t real it’s the way that Christmas is supposed
to feel
So we’ll sing our Christmas song, we know the words, we know the tune
It’s the same old cliches every year but Christmas time is coming soon

Lockdown Santa

Lockdown Santa
It’s a funny kind of Christmas, all the stores and bars are closed
But there are lights up in the window and it fells a lot like snow
And if you listen quietly, you might hear a sleigh
And the bells will tell you Santa’s on his way.
Santa aint in lockdown, Santa’s work is key
He’ll be putting all our presents underneath the Christmas tree
It’s a Covid safe delivery, Santa’s on the case.
With alcohol wipes and a mask upon his face
So that he can wear a mask Santa’s shaved his beard
Rudolph and the reindeer think it looks a little weird
His “ho ho ho” is muffled and his ears are getting sore
But he’s off delivering presents once more.
Rudolph and the reindeer have been in quarantine
Kicking their heels for 14 days so they’re feeling pretty keen
To transport Santa on his sleigh as fast as they can fly
If you look closely you might glimpse them in the sky.
It’s a funny kind of Christmas on Isolation Street
Without the friends and family that we had planned to meet
But there’ll be another Christmas, yeh there’ll be other years
When we’ll celebrate without any tiers!

Sad Stories (In Christmas Cards)
The Postman came the other morning,
Delivered a card from far away
Among the tinsel, the baubles and bunting
Was news of an old friend passed away
There was a robin on a log in snow on the cover
And inside a jolly little verse
But a handwritten note told the story
Of a friend who’s life had gotten worse.
Bad news in Christmas cards
December nights are long and the days are hard
Its amazing baby we’ve come this far
Given those sad stories in Christmas cards
And there’s bells, bells, bells,
That tell, tell, tell
The sad story.
I wish you “Peace on Earth and goodwill to all things”
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year
But turn down the thermostat and watch the purse strings
In this season of guilt and tears.
